Pay Homage to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva in The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall

Grateful for the Buddha’s powerful blessing! Set off on the white lotus!

Amitabha! A Yu joined the palms together to honor the Osiris!

“Excuse me Osiris! How does Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva save sentient beings in hell and could I go for a visit?”

The Osiris said, “Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is saving distressful sentient beings from the abyss of misery, never stopping even for a second. In our nether world prefecture, there is a dharma assembly hall named The First Bright Hadean Conversion, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is constantly preaching dharma in The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall to elucidate the teachings to the sentient beings of the nether world prefecture.”

I asked curiously, “Isn’t it that in the hell every thought is of suffering? How is there time to listen to the Dharma? For those who have already finished their retribution, don’t they need to immediately depart the hell to continue to the cycle of existence?”

The Osiris said, “In fact, the sentient beings in hell are the same as those in the human world. All of them degenerate from the six realms of transmigration.

Some go up to the heaven realm, asura realm, human realm, also there are some that go down to the three lower realms of existence as the hungry ghost, rebirth as an animal to transmigrate to be here. Their disposition is all the same, inherent nature of congenital brightness, but simply their disposition is lost because of the delusions and distortion, so they do various committing precepts behaviors like killing and so forth to degenerate themselves.

Every spirit has the day when it returns to its own natural brightness, but there are timely differences. For all those sentient beings who come to hell, it will take much long time to restore their congenital spirituality brightness because the polluted habits of the spirits in the hell are too deep and their evil karma is too heavy as well; even though an extremely rare mind of repentance is raised, yet they will be transferred very soon to suffer the evil karma.

Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has the great vow, “If the hell is not empty, I won’t become a Buddha. I will only realize enlightenment after all sentient beings are totally saved!” The Bodhisattva said to Yama with compassion that to any spirit punished in the nether world prefecture even if they have the thought of repentance for one moment, they can come to The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall to listen to the preaching and temporarily exempt from punishment.”

I said, “This is really great! Does that mean many sentient beings in hell can exalt?”

The Osiris replied, “A Yu, you have visited the sexual misconduct hells before, there are an infinite number of sentient beings suffering in hell.

One of the sexual misconduct hells named the Lash and Stave Hell, the number of sentient beings stretches as for as the eye can see and there are still many hells that you have not visited yet; comparatively to them, there are extremely few who can raise a rare mind of repentance.

Buddhas and Bodhisattvas always compassionately save the suffering sentient beings, and are teaching appropriately to the spiritual capacities; and are also making various ingenious arrangements, whether sentient beings have genuinely experience this once before?

For the work of you, A Yu, to come to hell was arranged by the Buddha’s compassion and sympathy. The hadean prefecture also hopes to take this opportunity to purify people’s heart, to let the sentient beings truly believe in the cause and effect and don’t create the evil karma for hell.”

Having arrived at The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall of hell, I prostrated to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva! My eyes were brimming with tears of excitement when I saw Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, my gratitude welled-up! I represent all the sentient beings and prostrated to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva again! Wish all sentient beings abandon suffering and obtain happiness, wish all sentient beings become happier, wish all sentient beings diligently cultivate and realize enlightenment to achieve Buddhahood as soon as possible.”

At that time, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva elucidated the five precepts for the commonalty. I saw there were many dharma masters in The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall! With this thought arising in the mind, the Osiris immediately explained for me.

The Osiris said, “A lot of these dharma masters committed the precept of sexual misconduct and the precept of stealing. Those who are here to listen to the Dharma have already been punished in hell and some were still in the middle of their punishment, but because they rose a mind of repentance so they can come here to listen to the Dharma.

When the spirits raise a mind of repentance, the brightness of the spirits’ heart will change a little bit, then the ghost guards will temporarily stop torturing the guilty spirits’ and take them to The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall to listen to the Dharma.

All the spirits who come to The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall have a thing in common, that is they know they won’t be tortured here, so all of them cherish the chance very much and almost all of them have taken in Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s compassion.”

Most of the body brightness of the spirits I saw were dark gray; some were dark cyan, dark red, some were black and were gossamer.

Here I saw one spirit with tears of suffering and rose a big shameful heart. At that moment his body’s brightness started to change from dark gray to light gray and it was obvious the spirit’s body felt lighter.

The Osiris explained, “This guilty spirit was a vitality thief ghost in his previous lifetime. Before being a vitality thief ghost he was a practitioner who had the heart of alms giving but didn’t observe the precepts and because he didn’t observe the precepts he fell into the ghost realm to be a vitality thief ghost. When he fell into the ghost realm he just made a living by stealing the vitality of human beings and of the practitioners who didn’t observe the precepts, so he quickly fell into the hell.”

Now the guilty spirit had tears of suffering and fell to his knees to beg for the repentance in front of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and vowed, “Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is so compassionate! Disciple is wrong! I will cultivate the proper Dharma, protect and uphold the proper Dharma in my continuous lives. I will protect and uphold the Dharma of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva forever.”

Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva gladly accepted this spirit’s repentance then this spirit was taken out by the ghost guards. The Osiris said he would reincarnate in the human world soon.

This The First Bright Hadean Conversion Hall is the only one place in hell where it is not gloomy and it is a little bit like the heater of the hell. Normally if I go to hell for a long time, my body temperature is always very low but today I felt quite good. Very grateful for the compassion of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s powerful blessing! 

By Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s majestic power, I continued to look at the spirits here. I found many spirits’ heart brightness was elevating and all of them were floating upwards.

The Osiris said, “All the spirits whose heart brightness was elevated are able to reincarnate in the human world to give them the opportunity to self-discipline their mind again.”

I’m so happy! A Yu wish they all can be happy; to abandon suffering and obtain happiness and diligently cultivate the proper Dharma.

Then I looked at the doorway again and there were many new spirits coming. It seem Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is unable to rest as there were yet so many sentient beings. Furthermore, the hell is boundless and enormous, it really cannot be known when all the sentient beings in hell can be saved and the hells become empty.

A Yu would like to ask the Osiris, “The spirit taken away just now by the ghost guard, what will his next life be like?”

The Osiris said, “Let me take you to have a look!” 

We instantly arrived at the Trial Hall of the hadean prefecture. I saw that weeping spirit, he knelt onto the ground and was grateful for the decree from Yama. I heard the spirit say, “Grateful for the decree from Yama! Grateful for the compassion of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva! I will definitely reform myself and have a new life to cultivate the proper Dharma from now on.” Afterwards the spirit was taken away to drink the Mengpo soup for reincarnation in the human world.

Excused Osiris, “What will this spirit be in the future?”

The Osiris then opened the birth and death record book to read and said, “This spirit is adjudged to be born in a family without correct cognition and views, lead an affluent life; but with poor health in his life; without major illnesses, but persistent minor illnesses, and he is destined to be constantly deceived by others. When he is 30-year-old, he will start to cultivate Dharma. He will meet the incarnation of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva living in the world to save and convert him.

In this life, his cultivation will have many harmful obstructions, he wouldn’t have a child to nourish in his old age or to attend his burial. This is the remaining retribution from his vitality thief ghost life. As for the affluent life, it is the retribution for alms giving when he was a practitioner. The bad health and many harmful cultivation obstructions are his retributions for absorbing others’ energy, auras and vitality. For him, this life is just a great training and a great examination – the examination of the mind.

In spite of having an affluent life, he will often have the thought of stealing which is caused by his karma. If he can be honest and uphold the precepts well, not complain about his bad health, not retaliate when cheated, deals with the harmful obstructions peacefully, repents immediately when the thought of stealing arises, then after this life his spirituality will continue to exalt. If it is the opposite then maybe he will come to the hell to see me again.”

I said, “No way! Come to hell again?”

The Osiris said, “We are already accustomed to this. For those who were saved by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva to depart the hell and succeeded in being reincarnated in the human world, they came back not so long ago again. Therefore, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is continuously saving sentient beings. Just now because that spirit rose a great mind to protect and uphold the Proper Dharma, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva even specifically arranged a separate incarnation to go to the human world to save and convert him. So we shouldn’t underestimate one’s great enlightened mind. With just this one thought, the sense will attract the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to save and convert you. The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are simply next to the sentient beings, it’s just the sentient beings don’t know as well.”

“I’m really grateful for the Osiris indeed; today A Yu learned a lot principles!” A Yu joined the palms together to thank the Osiris! Go back by the white lotus.
